EU Citizens Post Brexit
Alan Kitto
You may have heard in yesterday's news that the Home Secretary has released information on how the UK Government will treat EU citizens post-brexit.
The Government’s default position will be that EU citizens will be allowed to remain in the UK subject to them:
- Being able to prove their identity
- Having no criminal convictions
- Being able to show that they live in the UK
- Paying a £65 fee
It is expected that the application process will be done online and the information provided will be checked against Government (typically HMRC) records. The Home Secretary said yesterday that ‘there would have to be a very good reason why an application would be refused’ and that decisions would be made ‘in a matter of days’.
