Last month saw a former Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) employee, Rose Taylor, awarded £180,000 in compensation in what is being described as a landmark discrimination case.
Taylor, who came out as genderfluid at work in 2017, was subjected to a barrage of abuse and teasing at the the hands of colleagues, including one who asked if Taylor’s outfit ‘was for Halloween’ and another who told her, ‘It’s nice to see you in this attire. You have cracking legs.’
Another JLR employee asked Taylor, ‘So what’s going on? Are you going to have your bits chopped off?’ Taylor also overheard two others say, ‘Have you see IT in the atrium’. A female co-worker described Taylor as ‘not normal’ when she announced she was transitioning whilst another asked her why the ‘top half didn't match the bottom half’.
Dave Williams, Executive Director for HR at JLR apologised on behalf of the company as said, ‘We continue to strive to improve in this area and we respect the outcome of the case’.
