Holidays, Holiday Pay and Paternity Leave
Alan Kitto
The Government has issued new guidance on the most recent changes to the law surrounding Holiday Pay; the new guidance can be found here.
The guidance covers how to calculate holidays for people who start and leave part way through a holiday year as well as how to calculate holiday pay for casual workers who don’t have fixed working hours.
New legislation has been drafted that will effect changes to Paternity Leave and will apply in all cases where the effective week of childbirth (EWC) is on or after 6th April 2024. From this date:
Instead of having to choose one week or two consecutive weeks of leave, employees will be able to take two separate one-week blocks of leave.
Leave may be taken within the first 52 weeks of the child’s life, instead of the current 56 days.
Only 28 days’ notice to take leave will be required.
