Public Holidays in 2022
Alan Kitto
The Government has announced that there will be an additional bank holiday in 2022 to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This will be celebrated on Friday 3rd June 2022 and the bank holiday normally scheduled on the last Monday in May, will be moved to Thursday 2nd June 2022.
Where an employee's annual holiday entitlement is inclusive of normal public holidays, you are not legally obliged to give employees an extra day holiday in 2022. Where your holiday entitled excludes normal public holidays, employees will be entitled to be paid for this day and will not be required to work, unless you offer a day in lieu as an alternative.
Subject to the above, part-time employees will be entitled to the additional day on a pro rata basis, i.e. 3/5 of a day if they work three days a week (assuming the normal full time working hours are five days a week).
